After we'd pitched the tents some idle folk (you know who
you are) decided to spend the afternoon in the Bridge Inn (Col & Dick,
let's name the guilty). Andy, Bryan and I climbed the Sourmilk Gill
waterfall to Bleaberry Tarn and then went to the Bridge Inn with a glow of
self-righteous satisfaction.
We were enjoying our bacon butties on Saturday morning when we were
rudely interrupted by a cry of "Bastards!". One of the camper
van campers on the other side of the stream (tucking into his muesli no
doubt) was being driven mad by the smell. A few minutes later he had a cow
dribbling down his back; my, how we laughed.
On Saturday we climbed Red Pike via Scales Force, and then walked over
High Stile, High Crag and Haystacks before dropping down into the valley
and returning along the lakeside. Nature notes: we saw a red squirrel.
Length of walk 18 km (11 miles) - Ascent 1250 metres (4100 feet).
A stroll around Keswick and Lakeside on Sunday, and then home.
